Our Infant/Toddler House is located at 225 Third Street and enrolls chilren ages 6 weeks up to 2 1/2 years. Our little grey house is sits right next to the church. The program is licensed for 12 children and has four teachers working with the children. A Primary Caregiver system is used and all four teachers have early childhood degrees. The program is family style which means the group is mixed age and usually houses four infants and eight toddlers. The activities are play-based and age related. We follow the lead of our infants so their schedule is individualized. The older children have a loose schedule that promotes choices in language, motor, cognitive, social, emotional, spiritual and self-help skills. Families enjoy our program since it is small, cozy and family oriented.
Our preschool program shares space with St. Paul church and enrolls children ages 2 1/2 to five years. Preschool has two scheduling options: full day care and a three hour preschool program. The half day preschool program operates from September through June. Full day care is available throughout the year. We have a Summer Fun Program during the summer months which includes ballet, swimming and field trips. Former SPECC students who have attended kindergarten may come back to SPECC in the summer following kindergarten for care in our Summer Fun.
Our program provides experience in literacy, math, science, art, dramatic play, movement, music, field trips and more. We have an outdoor play area and a large gymnasium for indoor play experience.
Our children remain with the same teachers during the infant/toddler program and in the preschool program. Long term relationships develop between staff, children and parents.
All staff have early childood degrees and are experienced in the field. Most staff have at least 18 years of experience at St. Paul Early Childhood Center.
